Hemangioma Excision Under Local Anesthesia
Dr. Bastidas is one of the pioneers in offering excision of hemangiomas in infants and children under local anesthesia. Hemangiomas can be painlessly removed in the office without the need for general anesthesia or sedation. Parents can be in the room during the safe procedure.
CUTTING EDGE SURGERY (HYBRID VVM SURGERY)
Recently, our team began exploring the use of intraoperative sclerotherapy in conjunction with surgery. Patients with large VVMs are offered sclerotherapy during the operation in a hybrid endovascular/surgery suite to reduce bleeding and also allow for safer removal of VVMs through smaller access incisions. This has significantly reduced our need for blood transfusions and is something particularly unique to our vascular anomalies team here in New York City and Long Island.
Minimally Invasive Approach for Removal of Intra-Oral VVM
We recently published a paper how to remove intra-oral/facial venous vascular malformations without any visible scars. We combined using intra-operative facial nerve monitoring and sclerotherapy to allow for direct surgical removal of large VVMs.
